Jade V.S. (Verte Suisse) 1898 is an exact recreation of the original C.F. Berger 65º absinthe verte, down to incredibly small details. V.S. 1898 Absinthe Supérieure is made entirely by hand from selected plants from the original regions where C.F Berger was made over 110 years ago. It is then carefully distilled in old copper absinthe stills. This absinthe provides an experience typical of the best Swiss absinthes of the Belle Epoque. Tasting this little masterpiece, one notices how it quickly shows its refined strength with a bold aroma, full, rounded mouthfeel and clear herbal notes that linger on the palate.
So, let’s do a little bit of history as well… The C.F. Berger distillery was founded in 1823 in Couvet in the canton of Neuchâtel in Switzerland. The Berger distillery produced several Swiss absinthes, the most famous of which was C.F. Berger 65º degree absinthe verte, which gained its status as one of the premier absinthes of the 19th century. Unfortunately, absinthe production at the Berger distillery ceased with the Swiss prohibition in 1910 and the distillery ceased all operations in Switzerland shortly thereafter. This fine Swiss absinthe would have been almost lost forever had it not been for a find of unopened bottles, which Jade Liqueurs® was able to secure for preservation. Using proprietary analytical techniques, Jade has painstakingly revived this beautiful spirit from extinction. And as extra icing on the cake, we can tell you that we have of course also tasted the original from C.F Berger – and they are strikingly similar!
